CORK MAKING A MOVE TOWARDS INTIMACY
Frequently we find ourselves with the company of a group of people, and we can’t stop thinking on the moment of arriving home, to have a peaceful moment alone. What if we could have this little pleasure in the café of the corner , without the need to reach our house?
The rocking chair, icon of rest and introspection, is the resource that a team of students from Elisava has taken to bring the intimacy in the public space. They have combined it with cork because it strengthens the intention of comfort due to its acoustic properties and soft aesthetics. The importance of the material goes even further, it is coming from a non-profit entity that recycles the wine taps. Even chromatically as formally, the rocker assigns any attention on the cork elements; armrests and skates, solved in a singular cylindric shape which provides charm and warmth on the design. The rest of the piece, is composed by an steel frame and a curved shell of plywood that offers three models: natural beech, varnished in brown, or painted black anthracitic. Thanks to its swinging, the chair named Elmer, creates a meditative mood that not only helps on the user’s concentration but also claims this state of loneliness to the other people in the area.
Clean lines, balanced geometries, and formal purity is what converts this rocker into a trendy and fun design for any café, which is the atmosphere it has been created for. Thus, Elmer becomes the perfect excuse to invest time on oneself.
